Expository Essay Samples - Staars Educational Approach
Expository Essay Samples - Staar's Educational ApproachStaar is a professor of English at North Carolina State University. He is also the author of several books and articles on essays, including Expository Essay Samples. When he first began his research in this area, he discovered that many students felt that writing an essay was a daunting task. It was after working with students like these that he began to realize how important the research he did on these topics was.Staar has written hundreds of essays using various expository essay samples. Many of these have been published in major periodicals, but there are also more than a few essays that have found their way onto the Internet. His research involved studying all of the available essays from different viewpoints. This broad approach has allowed him to look at the wide variety of topics that would otherwise be difficult to consider. One thing that I find that Staar does that you don't see in most courses is that he takes the stu dent outside of the boundaries of the textbook. He explores how they think, the kind of analysis they may prefer, and other issues related to their own personal opinions and goals. The class focuses on developing these skills and not just simply teaching students how to make essays. This focus on student behavior leads to more effective writing than almost any other course.Staar does take some literary license with the expository essay samples. Some are funny and others are serious, but he includes all of these types of essays so that everyone can see different approaches to writing. He also adds many commentary points that will help the student develop their own perspective on the topics. He also stresses that this type of writing can be very diverse in terms of topics. For example, some students will find the topics that interest them but the essays might be quite different for other students.Staar doesn't make every essay the same. Instead, he lets the students decide what type o f essay they want to write. He makes it easy for them to explore the ideas in their own way. A lot of the time, the students only read one of the expository essay samples. One of the nice things about Staar's teaching style is that he brings in different writers to give the expository essay samples different points of view. This forces the students to really think about the different thoughts they are hearing. By allowing different points of view to shine through, they get a better understanding of how other people think and how they may be able to use that thinking in their own work. The expository essay samples are very flexible and there are so many different formats for different types of students. This flexibility makes this kind of writing very adaptable and it can also be adapted to different audiences. For example, the sample essays can be used to build on each other. It's possible to see how different people respond to a topic depending on their own experiences and needs.Staa r's teaching approach, which allows different students to write different kinds of expository essay samples, is one that is hard to find in other classroom settings. This adaptability makes this approach very valuable. If I were to offer advice about the teaching style that makes Staar's Expository Essay Samples a success, I would say that his students should learn to look beyond the words on the page. Students must learn to look at the whole essay and to engage in critical thinking.
